it's the holiday season

Thanksgiving was great. It's probably my favorite holiday. It's always super stressful leading up to the actual day but somehow it always manages to run smoothly. Ross and I ran the Drumstick Dash with friends from work and had a great time (even with no training!)...after that we hung out with my family. The first picture is Thanksgiving football, which has become somewhat of a tradition at the Meier house. Friday we went to Lafayette to see Ross's family and Sunday we relaxed around the house and put up the Christmas tree.
I can't believe it's December already. Our month is jam packed. I have finals this week and next and we have four Christmas parties in the next three weeks. Lucas has a bell concert on Thursday night to start off the festivities, and Saturday we have a joint birthday party - ugly holiday sweater party - white elephant party and I haven't been shopping yet! I have done a fair amount of Christmas shopping and am trying to finish up soon, for once!

Ross and Lucas saw the Pacers play the Oklahoma City Thunder at Conseco from the 1st row of spectators (3rd row counting media). They were right by Nastia Liukin! I was so jealous. I love the Olympic gymnasts!
Mom and Dad had a great time and made it home safely. I had to pick them up at the new terminal - it was quite an adventure. It is pretty far back from the highway exit but it's well laid out and there is a great deal of signage, which is good if you're like me and get lost easily!
I can't believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Ross and I have signed up to do a 2.6 mile run on Thanksgiving morning - the Drumstick Dash in Broad Ripple. We're running with one of my friends from work and her family...which means I need to start training now. I haven't run since we "ran" the Prostate Cancer run (that got rained out)!! Wish me luck...

I can't believe it's already November. So much has happened the past few weeks. Everyone in the family voted (Lucas and Max had a mock election at school where ironically McCain won by a landslide). I love this time of year. I don't love the leaves in our backyard but I love the holidays and being able to see family and friends. I started a new job a couple of weeks ago so hopefully I'll be able to share more often now.

Last night Lucas did KTA kicks Leukemia, a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. His school raised over $2400 and he personally raised $81. The participants had to kick as many times as they could in one minute. He got 81 kicks!

This weekend I am going to vote! I'm also tying up a lot of loose ends at work since I'll be starting my new job on Thursday next week. My parents also leave Thursday for their Mediterranean cruise and will be gone for two weeks.

Conferences

We had parent teacher conferences last night. Eric couldn't go but Ross and I went. I am so proud of the boys and everything they've accomplished this year. They are both such great students and role models to their fellow students. It helps that they have great teachers, but we all feel so lucky and blessed to have such wonderful boys.

ZooBoo

We went to ZooBoo on Sunday with Abby, Nool and their girls. Lucas dressed up as JangoFett from Star Wars and Max is Iron Man. They were a little leery because when we walked up not many kids were dressed up. There were a bunch of kids in costume when we got inside so that made them feel a little bit better!

Updates

It's been a month or so since I've posted! These pictures are from the Fishers Renaissance Faire the first weekend in October at Conner Prairie. One of my friends did the costumes and music so we went to support her and see the sights.

Lucas turned 10 on October 1. We're just now celebrating his birthday this weekend. Saturday morning we're doing some fundraising for KTA via volunteering at an aid station during the Indianapolis Marathon in Lawrence. We've managed to gather 10 people to help and will raise $135 for Lucas's taekwondo school. After that we're taking a couple of his friends downtown to Jillian's for some games and dinner. Sunday we're going trick or treating with the animals at ZooBoo at the Indianapolis Zoo.

Updates

We have had a busy past few weeks! The baseball game was great (minus a small amount of rain) and we had a great vacation! It was hard to be away from the boys for so long but nice to get away and relax for a little bit. My parents are getting ready to go on a trip to Niagara Falls next week, and I'm glad they get to get away, too. Lucas will turn 10 when they're gone, and we're not quite sure what we're going to do for his birthday but we have a few ideas in mind. I can't believe he's 10. He is growing up to be such a great young man. We are proud of him and Max! Pictures from the game and vaca to come.

1st day on the bus

It wasn't technically their first day of school, but it was Max's first day on the bus. He looks like he's in pain, but he's not! He's very excited.
We have had an influx of visitors from Dad's side of the family! Aunt Donna and Uncle Terry were here a few months ago, Aunt Wilma is here now, and Stephanie and Allen are going to be here next weekend! It's always nice to see family, especially when we haven't seen any of them in so long. We're hoping to get to the fair before it ends but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. :(

Gold!

Here's Lu with gold medal #1. We are so proud of the team and what they were able to accomplish at the tournament!!!

Mission accomplished

The KTA team had a great tournament. Everyone medaled in both events, and Lu got two gold medals! Hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures tonight. Downtown Knoxville was really nice. They have a great park with some fountains that kids were playing in, and a sunsphere that was built for the World's Fair in 1982 that we went up in. The trip to Knoxville was not so fun. My Google map directions were wrong and they basically led us to a spooky forest in the middle of nowhere. I swear the horses had guns, but I think I'm the only person who saw that!

New beginnings

Kindergarten meet the teacher is tonight! I can't believe Max is growing up so fast. He's a little bit nervous but I think he's excited too. I hope he continues to love school as much as he did the past two years at CUMNS. Lucas is going into fourth grade! Next year he's in intermediate school! He liked 3rd grade, but not nearly as much as 2nd. I hope 4th is a good year for him. We're off to TN this weekend for a tournament, and Dad's birthday is Sunday, so it's a pretty busy weekend.

Camping was fun. It was pretty wet, so we didn't get to do too much. We played frisbee golf and played around the campsite (playground, fire pit, etc). We can't believe summer is over. The boys have Meet the Teacher/Ice cream socials this week and start school next week. Max is a big boy now and is going to kindergarten! My classes start the 3rd week in August. I'm not too excited about it - although I haven't had much of a summer off since I've been working at home. We have a busy few weeks ahead. Next weekend is my dad's birthday and Lucas has the Smoky Mountain Championships taekwondo tournament (Knoxville, TN). The first week in September we're going to a Cubs/Reds game (Max's first major league game!) and the weekend after that Ross and I leave for our cruise!

Patriots

We're staunch Patriots and proved it by lighting up the sky July 4. The boys have quite the obsession with pyrotechnics. They aren't afraid of a little fire, which could be good or bad. Check out the pic of Max Gilmore, as he attempts to putt-putt at Pirates Cove. He's actually pretty good, and doesn't take himself seriously at all, which will definitely benefit him if he's going to become a golfer. Camping next weekend. I'm sure I'll have a picture of us decked out in our full Camelbak regalia. 5K got rained out, and we're going to do our best to not be fairweather runners anymore! We're logging the miles.

Lately

Cousins are visiting this week. We went to the Children's Museum today and Nana and Da are taking all of the kids to the movies tomorrow. This picture was taken inside the maze at the Children's Museum. No big July 4 plans as of yet, but we're contemplating a trip to Detroit to watch our KTA brethren fight in the Junior Olympics/Jr. & Sr. Nationals. Lucas is gearing up to fight there next year so this may be a good thing for him to see.

Mad Max

Here's Max in all of his glory. Monday night's game was cold and he didn't have a jacket so he sat in the bat bag for awhile to keep warm.

And just like that...

... the season is over. We lost tonight, and played a really hard fought game. The boys should be so proud of themselves, but it was a tough way to end the season. This is a great group of boys and they have all come so far this season. We're going to miss going to the ballpark.

Lucas isn't playing fall ball or soccer - we're going to do the tkd tournament circuit and potentially prepare for junior nationals next year. He is going to play winter basketball so hopefully we'll see some of the kids around then.

Western Conference Champs

The Lugnuts won their game last night, 10-7! They are the Western Conference champs, which as Eric so gracefully reminded everyone, didn't mean much if they followed the Lakers example. They play tonight at 7:30 pm.

In my excitement to get other pictures posted, I forgot to put my memory card back in my camera the night before. So I charged my camera battery but forgot the memory card, thus I could not take any pictures! I will do better next time!

Monday night baseball

The Lugnuts played again Monday night. They won 9-5. Lucas hit a triple that scored 3 runs, but pitching was the key in this game. There are two outstanding pitchers on his team, Nathan and Sam, and they were the difference. The guys play in the semifinal game Wednesday night at 7:30. If they win Wednesday night, they play for the championship Thursday at 7:30 pm. If they lose Wednesday night, they play the consolation game Thursday at 5:30 pm. The kids didn't know they beat the #1 seed on Monday and they were really jacked up when they heard that!

Weekend

Last weekend was jam packed. Friday night we took Lucas to his first concert, Jack Johnson, at Verizon Wireless Deer Creek Music Center with the Nools and Nate and Kelly. Storms threatened all night but it turned out to be a perfect night for a concert. Jack donated all of his proceeds from the show to the Indiana flood victims!

Saturday morning Lucas had his first black belt credit test. It was ridiculously difficult, especially for not having too much sleep. He had a great partner, and they did great.

Saturday evening was the first game of his baseball tournament. They won! He scored 3 runs on a double and the team was outstanding. Their next game is scheduled for Monday at 7:30 pm.
